Turrets cause lag and use a lot of PCU because each individual turret is scanning the 600m or 800m radius around it searching for targets. This is understandable for small builds but becomes unnecessarily redundant and taxing for large builds with hundreds of guns : SO why not add a central ship radar block / system that does the scanning itself, and sends identified targets to the turrets, in turn the turret script is simplified to only checking for a clear line of sight to the target.
If you are running a ship large enough to carry hundreds of turrets, are you sure it's the turrets that are taxing your PCU...

Of course its not just turrets, but this is a way to optimize the game and thus reduce said lag. Even if it was so small of an improvement to let turrets share their scanning instead of doing it 20, 40, 60, 100+ times over. It would cut the processing needs of the game and let things run more smoothly.
