The planet tried to eat my blocks

I cut a grid off of my station that I was going to use as a ramp and later decided I didn't need, I began to salvage the blocks and next thing I know it starts sinking into the ground. after it created a big pit in the ground I was able to get it to stop after I cut the grid into smaller pieces. whats up with that?
