Stop armour deformation from affecting sub grids

A problem that often happens with armour deformation is that it collides with a ship's sub grids, especially if the sub grid is only spaced by 11 cm. This causes all kinds of physics hi jinx and usually causes the ship to spasm out of control.
Rather than simply stopping to affect entirely, giving subgrids godmode, perhaps work should be done on toning down the high jinks and spasms to realistic levels?

I'm necroing this big time but please Keen, do this. Or, at least allow us via the mod API to simply turn off deformations, but keep collision damage, as currently if DeformationRatio is set to 0, or UsesDeformation is set to false, armor simply takes no collision damage as well as not deforming.
Please consider at least giving us options. I want to get back into the game, but the fact that I can't safely play with any subgrids without making enormous ships is putting me off 100%.
