stand alone install for beta?

I would like to have the beta test version of the game be a separate install that could stay installed after the beta server is down. this would allow for better extended testing by people who do not have time away from work during the limited times that the server is up. (I have missed all open test games due to work or family) this would have the added benefit of not corrupting local saves by mistake.

I do not see a down side to this other than getting extra bug reports or feedback after the beta should be closed. (I would not consider this a problem myself)
