Some new weaponry changes

The game's visuals look great for a game released in 2013 by such a small team of developers, I believe the guns can get some love, too!

The automatic rifle has gone through a visual update since it left Alpha, but I believe that it wasn't really worked on again after it's update, why can't we fix that with a major update of it's own?

Also, the game gives a very small variety to turrets in the game, only 3 options! 2 of which can work on small grids! Why can't we have a 4th turret and 3 work on small grids! (More on that later, first, let's focus on the Automatic Rifle)


1st change: different barrel lengths, I'm feeling for every gun there would be a different barrel length, it gives the gun more character rather than different skins and a iron sight and holo sight

Automatic rifle: More barrel length, normal size for your average rifle

Precise rifle: Even more barrel length, helps it look more like a sniper - Sniper scope: has more zoom than the holo sight

Rapid-fire rifle: Short barrel, basically no model changes as it looks good for it's stats

Elite rifle: Same barrel length as the automatic rifle, but it keeps it's holographic sight


2nd change: Realistic holographic sights, The static sight on the holo scopes really triggers my OCD, and I just can't stop looking at it


3rd change: A pistol, doesn't have to have different upgrades/versions, it'll just be cheaper (to build) than the automatic rifle and has different ammo, which takes 9mm rounds, which is also cheaper than the 5.56x45mm NATO rounds, also the pistol is lighter than the automatic rifle, anyway, here are the stat changes (compared to the automatic rifle)

(Pro) The engineer, in survival, spawns with a pistol, with 1-3 magazines

(Con) Less player damage, Does a little less damage compared to the automatic rifle

(Con) Extremely lower block damage, (barely does anything to large grid light armor blocks)

(Con) Lower magazine size, each magazine carries 10-15 rounds (instead of the rifle's 30)

(Con) Semi-auto, you can't just hold down the fire button and spray bullets


4th change: A sniper turret (small and large grid)

I think that a sniper turret would be useful from picking targets off from a distance, I have even thought of my own balancing for it:

(Pro) Does a lot more player damage than the gatling turret

(Pro) Deals a lot more damage to blocks than the gatling turret

(Pro) Has a larger targeting range than the gatling turret (up to 1 km rather than 800m)

(Con) Has a much, much lower fire rate than the gatling turret, up to 1/4 of it's rate of fire)

(Con) requires a lot more materials to make it's ammo, 50.cal BMG

(Con) Each magazine only carries 5 rounds for it

(Con) Has a much smaller inventory size for magazines

(Con) With great power comes great recoil, about 5x the recoil of the gatling turret (If the gatling turret has no recoil, ignore this balance)

Lovely ideas which wouldn't be so hard to make.


The rifles are actually worthy of grand overhaul (if there aren't planned any new weapons).


I'd personally ad even more to the turrets and weapons (Such as large calibre canons for both small and large grid with maximum amount of barrels going up to 3.) - Small ships could only use one-barreled canon turrets.


But those, along with tracks, are honestly just hopes and dreams of almost all Space engineer i know.
