Smooth thruster (Power buildup)

You know when you travel at high speeds and for some reason you need to slow down. Most of the time we slow down using inertia dampeners. When you almost come to a stop you see the thruster fire trail (Don't know how to call it) slowly diminishing. I would like to see this when you go press the throttle where the thruster builds up to it's maximum power. Right know you see the thruster giving instant power and when you release the throttle it instantly loses power. Along with the sound you hear when you slowly need to manoeuvre (whoosh ... woosh .... woosh).
