Server Admin limits

Under Consideration

im admin on spacewars server and 2 others, i was wondering if there was a way to exempt admins from the ingame limits. it use to assign blocks to nobody so i can build anything needed despite player limits but now since the update every block placed is added to my limits and owned by me. it makes tit a bit hard to build my public location with such limits

Same problem here.

Another issue with admin having to bow before the rules is that when you have to copy-paste / cut-paste a grid to recover it, if you've built pretty much anything, the chances are you can't fix some player's problem.

I think so. I'm a server admin, too. Exempting admins from the ingame limits is important, this will give admin more jurisdiction.

ya the main issue is what siliconpot stated. im not allowed to play or I cant fix the players issues. kinda makes it boreing to watch a game and not be able to play.

related yes but also doesn't have an answer. (sidenote* also that person loves to type a lot and use unnecessary words. lol) atleast it was very informative for the Devs though.

*update. i have found a work around for player limits for admin using midspace admin commands mod

my personal limits are now zeroed out. so thisll do till keen fixes it

make a npc in the faction and type /builtby "NPC NAME". itll force the blocks onto the npc despite per player limit

you can still use the grid if you still own the terminals

and set to facction

its the builtby status that affects limit

This would make damage control so much easier as an admin. I really hope this is implemented!

The purpose of PCU is to keep good server performance as much as possible. If game leaves admins to build anything in any amount, this purpose can be easily broken.

The proposed solution can be that admin can build "as he is" another player. In admin screen he will select specific player and all further building is created as built by that player. In this case PCU remains consistent and per player fixes can be easily done.

That is worthless. Factions build on the same grid. This means that a single grid can be over a a single player's block limits. So, if I need to cut and paste a grid of a faction because the grid is doing some Keen physics bullcrap, I can't re paste it because I'm over the limit? I'm an admin for christ sake. I can just go delete the files and break the game if I want...

that solution is better than it is currently, but like others have said, it doesnt help when a grid made by multiple players in a faction needs re-pasting due to desyncs, the admin needs the ability to do a re-paste action that re-paste's the grid but maintaining the player/PCU assignments of the original

Petr: One may assume, an admin has the performance in mind when doing action like copy paste. In the end, he may also be the one, who has hosted the server in the first place and HAS SET THE LIMITS. But it's worthless, if an admin can't do the simplest task wihtout being limited all the way.

Apply that logic to official servers but why force it on the entire community? All this does is handicap admins from doing in game events / helping out players that need assistance. Its one thing to say its not implemented and another to say were not going to implement because of the reason you gave. That reason falls flat on every single server and needs to be seriously reconsidered.

I'm still waiting for this to be implemented before I try administering my dedicated server again. Please add this in the next major update, or I will most likely shut down my servers. Limits prevent the admin from being able to play if they are also helping other players and doing cleanup.

As an admin of a PVP server that regularly suffers from random Keen physics issues it is a real pain to fix broken ships that are built by multiple players because they can't be pasted back in as they would violate grid limits.

There simply is no logical reason why admins should be restricted by PCU on their own server. This argument that admins need to be also limited to the PCU limits for 'server performance' is total nonsense that makes no sense. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

I have just set the pcu limit on my server to 0 so it disables pcu. I think keen needs to use block enforcement for setting limits on servers the pcu is nice to get a idea of what may cause issues but it shouldnt be an enforceable limit. Im not even going to describe how the limits are broken on Official servers. They are basically unplayable unless you are the first player on them. So Keen please listen to the people leaving comments here especially the one from Warlord above.

Yep... Somehow there needs to be a way to populate the worlds with entities to bring life to space and the planets. The admin is the likely choice to do this. They need more flexibility for their own limits aside from the player base.

100% need this, Admins have to do all sorts of work-arounds for limits when we also need the limits too, Very hard to do when you play on the server + have to cut/paste grids daily that would make you exceed limits.
