Sensor Option to Sense Air and Light

Considered (Not Planned)

A different mode for the sensor where instead of a field around the sensor, it can detect light or air when it hits the sensor block. Or maybe just a different sensor all together.

There is one such sensor - this is a ventilation grille.

But the vent is absurdly oversized for the job of sensing alone. By your reasoning, you would have to use doors as people-sensor, ejectors, drills, or connectors as rock sensor, cockpits or RCs plus thrusters as gravity sensor, and so on. There are already Sensors, reasonably small electronic packages that can be slapped to walls, and they work well. From a gameworld perspective, there is no logical reason to forbid having a sensor for a particular property simply based on the argument that another part already does that even though it only does it as an added bonus.

  • The Air Vent already detects a breathable atmosphere.
  • You can mimic a light sensor with a Programmable Block polling a Solar Panel or Oxygen Farm for it's current output.

The problem is, the programmable block has been moved to experimental.

I love this idea. Just one use...turning off unneeded lights and other types of amazing things. And we also currently have this tech in real life. Let alons decades from now.
