Salvaging Idea

A simple idea I thought I would share. Could you add chunks of ships or things that we could find in space? Almost like asteroids, a source of supplies but perhaps in the form of rusty, broken, scraps. I think it would be rather enjoyable to get resources from another source besides drilling rock. Due to servers cleaning "junk and such" to help with performance it would be very unlikely to come across any salvaging/scrapping opportunities. I enjoy gathering up unknown signals, that is as close to my "salvaging ship" idea I can get at the moment. Hopefully I am not the only one who would benefit from this.
I am not sure how it would effect performance but I think it would be worth it.

Good news, this is already in the game. Just enable "encounters" in the game options (the same place you enable / disable drones, unknown signals, wolves, etc).
