Research Terminal/Survival Kit overhaul

The idea is everyone starts with the locked down Tech tree as per usual. Games like Astroneers gives us a station where we can individually unlock the exact part we want for the specific task you are performing.

Research is not done instantaneously, it takes time for you to get more block options so planning ahead becomes a necessity. This method forces players to choose what they actually need and having the time spent understanding the blocks uses, this encourages decision making and creative solutions knowing the difficulty of acquiring better equipment.

Survival Kit

The Survival Kit will only provide you the bare bones for upgrading to higher tier blocks

(Blocks, Wind Turbine, Solar Panel, Small Cargo Containers, Batteries, Basic Production Blocks, etc)

Research Terminal

The Terminal will open up the highest tiered options that are needed if you wish to get off the planet

(Hydrogen Thrusters, Reactors, Large Cargo Containers, Advanced Production Blocks)

Terminal Upgrades

Much like the production upgrades, the ones for the terminals are designed as such to increase the rate in which the research takes to complete

(optional Hard mode)

If the Terminal Block is completely destroyed then all High tier data will be lost and will have to be researched again with a new Terminal.

Server Block

Cheaper to build compared to the Terminal. This block can be used to store the data else where in case the Terminal is destroyed so as to avoid losing everything.

The other thing the Server can be used for is as a companion to the Projectors. You can "Bookmark" the blueprints so as to quickly find the ship you want without the need of your friend being the only one with access to the plans. Other players cannot see what you are subscribed to on the workshop, they can only see the data you personally store in the Server Block.

PS: Just for inspiration how it can be done 'right' look at game called 'Factorio' (even demo will suffice) ...
