Realistic thrust for ships without a gyroscope.

I had an idea when using this mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=575893643

Currently, thrusters apply their force to the center mass of ships, but what if you had the option to use realistic physics too? (aka, a thruster applies it's force at it's own position, instead of the center mass of the ship)

It would be completely optional, as ships with a gyroscope would function just like they currently do in the game.

It would add an interesting option when designing ships, and it might be a good challenge for those that choose to take it.

Maybe for a hardcore survival mode? that would be pretty awesome, kind of like Kerbal Space Program where you have to realistically balance a ships design..... that would be so awesome for Space Engineers.

It doesn’t even have to be in a different mode, just a world option. As i said, nothing would change for ships with gyros, and nobody builds ships without gyros as far as i know.

In the case this would get implemented, then another slider for thruster efficiency (0-100%) would be needed, so it would be possible to fine-tune the thruster array.

remove gyro`s and let the ship itself determain the needed thrusteroutput.

it is axial so all you have to do is calculate the momentum in position to the center of mass

so either 2 thrusters same size in the same place. or a big one close to the center and a small one far away from the center. thrusters in diferent directions can helpe eachother out when rotating

In other words you want torque to be programmed into ships thrusters? I think they can easily do this as when you build something on a planet that is unbalanced it will experience torque from gravity, so they can probably do this as well.

Actually, since the mod affects ALL thrusters including modded ones, i'd guess that thrusters did originally work like this but they changed it to apply at center mass later.

As such they wouldn't need to program this function to thrusters, but instead just change when it is applied.

Keen probably decided to change it since it was more fun to not have to balance the thrust. (could still be fun as an option though)

I would quite like to see this. It would be a nice challenge to have for those who want it and it would be excellent for space battles as taking out engines could cripple ships.

I do think that fly by wire would have to be added by keen though
