"Parking Brake" should ONLY work for landing gear and wheels

Currently, when pressing 'P', I can activate my wheel lock, my landing gear lock, and my connector lock. If I have a somewhat overcomplicated ClangBeest, all on the same craft. If my ship only has wheels, or only has landing gear, or only has a connector, this is sometimes fine. In fact, on a small grid craft, this is almost always fine.

However, it is not fine when it comes to large ships and stations.

Right now, if I have a station with six ships docked to it, and I accidentally press 'P' from a cockpit on the station, every single ship on the grid disconnects. If I have a ship with multiple ships docked to it, a carrier, then same issue.

I understand that having one button for multiple tasks makes life a lot easier. But while the wheel lock and the landing gear have no issues being used together, the connector needs to be separate.

TL:DR, Right now the 'P' Key is Evil for connected grids, just like the 'Y' Key, it is the scourge of inexperienced Space Engineers especially in multiplayer, when one person can screw an entire faction by hitting one of these keys. A simple removal of connectors from affected blocks would stop many many inexperienced and experienced Engineers from 'P'eeing off their ships from their stations and carriers.

A simple fix, could stop us all from 'P'eeing when we don't want to.

Please Keen,

Stop the 'P'.

I have requested this for over a year...

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/please-separate-keybind-for-landing-gear-wheel-brakes-connectors-and-optionally-color-picker

The fact that this still hasn't been done is insane, and just warrants people to accidentally ruin hours of people's time.

Let's keep supporting eachothers' proposals then yes? Get enough people and they'll get the message.

Sorry, I thought I had already hit the button.

no probs just figured I'd ask. I know we all want this pretty bad and every bit helps.

At least a simple checkbox in the terminal for connectors should do the trick:

"switch lock with parking brake" - If selected, the connector switches lock, as it did before, if deselected it doesn't.

This gave me an idea: What about variety added to each keybind?

Example: "P" would be for parking brake, "Shift+P" would be for landing gear, and "Ctrl+P" for connectors.

It wouldn't have to be "Shift" or "Ctrl", it could be any other combination of keypresses or even, (if the devs have the ability to, as not every game engine can), long presses and double presses on each key. i.e. "P" for brake, "Long Press P" for landing, and "Double Press P" for connectors.

To be honest the simplest solution would be to allow the keybind to be changed for all three. The addition of the ctrl and shift could be added to that, but the simplest solution would still be to just make 'p' a key that is default the key for all three, but can be changed to whatever you want.

Done, I can play now.

Lets face it, With all goodnes that comes with timerblocks, sensonrs and scripts haveing one-button-do-it-all is just too casual. After full tech tree progresion most gamers are aware that every grid can be customized to their needs.

To not mess with main default game design I would sugest to keep P or Y keys as they are but with ability to redefine they purpose as the gameplay advance. For example puting a Timer block option to react on binded key imput - which would remove default key bindings.

Then you could assign multiple action like unlocking landing gears and switching batteries to Auto in one button. Or whatever alse you want. IMHO this solution can keep main game sedign as it is and make hardcore 1000+h SpaceEngineers happy. Thats should not be hard to implement, right?

Main game design wouldn't have to change, all we're asking is for them to extend the keybind to allow for splitting "Brake/Landing Gear" bind to separate lines.

Brakes: P

Landing Gear: P

Connectors: P

and then allow you to change each individually as each player sees fit

God this is relevant. I decided to construct a modular station...

Personally I use P to lock connectors on small ships, I would prefer ability to designate what cockpit should do on 'P' - brake, (un)lock or (un)dock.

Aye, fair enough. But no matter what we need a change.

I just deleted these keys in the keyboard settings. And I use only panels.I crashed many times due to the fact that I accidentally clicked on them when I wrote anything in the chat.
