Nightvision Camera

Option for camera to enter Nightvision Mode in which you sacrifice colour vision for low light visibility.

When you implement heat into the game, consider also adding infra-read/thermal vision too.

Night vision would be pretty helpful, especially on the dark side of a planet, or inside a dark asteroid.

It would help with performance as well if it means less lights are used. It would also help when the distance is farther than the range of lights.

I think this work best in a horizontal tunnel around 30 - 40 meters in, on a planet. For roid mining, works best while in the shadow of the roid you are mining.

Infiltrating a poorly lit enemy base...

Maybe also sacrifice a bit of camera zoom when you enter night vision mode. And ditch the regular camera effect filter, but add a green variant to the night vision camera.

Vanilla dark isn't THAT dark... barely need spotlights most of the time.

Yeah, and it's honestly irritating. I play with Space Just Got Real in any serious game, because otherwise it's too darn bright and there's no reason to illuminate anything most of the time. Also, what I've learned is that spotlights are WAY better at illuminating large areas (hangars, construction areas) than normal lights. They also look better. They cast shadows. The visible beam's annoying though.

I guess the suit torch, interior lights and spotlights should be removed from the game then?

This is sarcasm.

I play with Space Got Real, but the MP server I play on does not... almost enough to make me quit the server, but I can't find any server that DOES host with SGR, so I figured that one was as good as any. I do sorely miss the original darkness that was removed so long ago.

Kai, your sarcasm has been acknowledged, and filed appropriately. If they had real darkness vanilla, I would support this but as is.... Meh.

Space Just Got Real is a must for me, or at least skyboxes that have similar lighting. Vanilla skybox looks horrible.

Night vision would be cool, especially if you need infrared lights/spotlights to see out further while using night vision like in real life. Like in real life, IR light sources would be invisible to the engineer, but visible to cameras (both normal and NV cameras).

This would also lead to the potential for thermal imaging cameras, too. Something that I loved about Mass Effect is that ships need to vent heat into space. This is done with heat-conductive panels on the hull. As a result, thermal imaging can spot these panels from a distance, and the stripes/patterns of the heat panels are used to identify ship class and faction.

So yeah, let's definitely encourage night vision and IR lights/emitters!
