Never Surrender start can be near-impossible.

I started a new game to try out the new game mode, and spent a few hours progressing through the initial setup. I got a base going, and built a wheeled vehicle.

My next step, basically, is to find cobalt to make metal grids to built atmospheric thrusters.

This is proving to be nearly impossible, since my landing pod dropped me in the middle of a huge mountainous area, and my wheeled vehicle (with ore detector) can't traverse any of it. The search for the right ores has never been a fun part of the game for me, but this makes it far worse.

The only way for me to find Cobalt is to fly around from ore node to ore node (which are very difficult to spot in the first place; I'm near the north pole and it's usually night and very dark, and I can't reliably tell where the ore nodes are) and drill down into them with my hand drill until I am deep enough to detect some ore. I found Iron this way, and Silicon by the surface, but it got so tedious that I gave up.

I strongly recommend that a change be made that will lessen this burden - whether it be a predilection to spawn around the equator (where it's usually flat deserts and wheeled vehicles would actually work), a better way to locate ore, or the inclusion of Cobalt and other ores (according to whether the stone was dug on Earth / Moon / Asteroid) into Stone refining.

The scenario isn't playable for me, as I can't locate any ores.

Ah, never mind, I've finally figured out that this is to force players to master the ground vehicles a bit before being able to build flying ones. A decent-sized ground vehicle can be built without finding any particular ores really, and that vehicle, no matter the terrain (with some practice) can find ores.
