[MP] Safe zones as anti-grief system

Considered (Not Planned)

Idea. Use automated safe zones to protect from offline-raiding and griefing.

How to do this: An Admin can place a safezone that activates only, when no member of a certain Faction has been online for at least 10 minutes. This would prevent most forms of offline-griefing and raiding and make the game alot more interesting for us. I contacted a few other Server admins about this and they considered it a great idea.

The 10 minutes mentioned above would prevent this method from getting abused in most cases

Unlike Medieval Engineers, SE has things like turrets and warheads and/or drones that can protect your base. A safe zone isnt really necessary, you just need to be prepared for the unlikely event that someone finds you (as its near impossible to do so)

No amount of turrets could protect you from even a half-minded attacker with enough resources. It absolutely is a problem.

It's incredibly dumb that you could log off, them come back later to a smoldering crater... That isn't fun or engaging pvp, it's just shit. Worst of all that this is USUALLY how it goes. It's EASY to attack bases when the other guys are asleep.

A protective invulnerability bubble of some kind would benefit the pvp game immensely. Though, this is how I would do it:

* Each player will be allowed to build ONE "Protection-bubble block" Building a second one will delete the previous.

* This "Protection-bubble block" will provide a decently sized sphere (enough for 1 player's stuff) This bubble only functions on static grids, and won't function if there's another player's shield bubble already nearby.

* During the server's prime time (like 5pm to 11pm, adjustable in server settings) all shield bubbles will deactivate, encouraging pvp as usual. Outside these times, the bubbles are activated and protects everything inside. Turrets can still shoot out of the bubble and won't use ammo (to prevent needless ammo draining).

I don't think a better solution exists.

Maybe these bubbles could be made around station grids automatically when players go offline.

This would be the simplest and the most natural solution.

What the hell is "griefing"? Do you mean players engaging in PVP?

I'm against this idea, the official servers are already extreme PVE with their infinite world sizes and no radar.

says the guy who offline raids, and hasn't lost months work of equipment on a 1:1:1 server. But, I guess you want a social darwinist game. I actually, want my friends to not rage quit when I play with them.

Griefing is a player raiding the ship of an offline player. It is rage-inducing, has nothing to do with PvP at all. This suggestion is somewhat obsolete because Kamikaze made it a mod.

Wait, what mod?
