Measure distances with crosshair

Hello.

One feature I wish for a lot is to be able to measure the distance to asteroids by hovering them with my crosshair.

That would be useful when prospecting asteroids in a certain area as larger asteroids always appear to be closer than smaller closer ones. Having this would be a much appreciated time saver as many hours are wasted by every player moving from asteroid to asteroid in search of resources and it's really frustrating to target the closest looking one just to realize you're passing near a couple of closer ones in your journey.

The way this feature would work is either in ships by using a laser antenna (give it laser measuring capability) or just by default in any hud. Even in your space suit you could potentially measure distances for up to 1 km in addition to 10 km for small grids and 100km for large grids.

Altenatively we could have a "measure by paralax" feature, where you orient your ship, then move laterally, while distances to objects start to appear from the closest ones to the furthest ones requiring most movement.

What about the script? Now there are many scripts with this feature. Here I send the second best I know. ↓

Or have a tool/block that does this. It's a bit of a weird feature to have built in to a space suit.

it might be. I'm willing to let it go for the space suit. But measuring distances with the laser antenna sounds like a good idea to me :)

I think having a script isn't really a solution. Measuring distances is not something that should be impossible in the game without mods or scripts.

Does anyone know if there are other more popular tickets about similar features that might allow mapping nearby asteroids?

I think it would be better personally if it was integrated as something the Laser Antenna's did, or maybe a special spotlight block, and whatever the laser hit, would display a little distance readout.

yes, ANY solution would be a good solution in this case.
