Ideas for Official Server Funding

I think official dedicated survival servers are CRUCIAL for the long term servival of SE multiplayer, as it allows for a controlled and stable experience for all players, but especially new players. I do think 32 player servers are a must to make sure servers have plenty of "life" in them. 64 would be nice but I think that's best reserved for experimental servers, as it's amazing enough just to run 32.

Ideas for paying for these servers:

1) Voluntary monthly payments by players. These would be recurring monthly donations ($5-10) that allow players who are willing and able to contribute to the cost of running and staffing servers. Assuming enough people donate (and I think they would), this would get rid of any payment barrier for playing on premium, stable servers. Allowing dedicated players to support the game for everyone on a voluntary basis would create a very positive multiplayer community with passionate players helping out new players. I don't think any "perk" needs to be offered, but it would be nice to do something like giving exclusive skins to people who support the official servers. Absolutely no in game advantage should be acquired as a result of supporting the official servers with a monthly donation.

2) NOT THE PREFERRED OPTION. Make payment mandatory for play on official servers and whitelist players who have paid. This would work, but it would leave a very bad taste in the mouths of players, and it would likely tank the game's review score on Steam, etc.

Option 1 is obviously what I personally prefer, but I do realize it's a bit optimistic. In any case, I say at least TRY the voluntary donation method, and if it doesn't work, go to a mandatory model. In any case, requiring payment is still a better option than no official servers at all.

Please, leave feedback of your own here and let's get some ideas flowing to help KSH maintain these servers for the long haul!

Hello Patrick,

thank you very much for submitting the idea about the official server funding. We will be analyzing the official servers during this month to see what is the best way to manage and fund them.

We welcome all suggestions and we will look at your suggestions as one of the options for sure.

Please follow our CEO, Marek Rosa, blog to get the latest news. He will blog about the official servers once we reach the decision. You can find it here > https://blog.marekrosa.org/

Again, thank you very much for your suggestions.

Maybe paying for reserved slots would be good. I mean when the server is full and someone with reserved slot is connecting, it kick someone without reserved slot.

Hello Oskar,

right, this is also an option. We will take it into consideration for sure. Thank you for your feedback.

Reserved Slots is usually some extra slots on the server.

Like it is a 64 player server, and 4 slots is dedicated reserved slots so the server will only fill up to 60 (no matter the combination of non-reserved and reserved) and 4 more reserve slot players can login.

Kicking someone will lead to a bad experience and bad reviews.

Good idea with the reserved slots. I also think kicking would be a bad idea, but having slots reserved only for donating members would be good.

How much are we talking about?

If reserved slots ignored max players, whoever doesnt have a reserved slot would in time log out/try to reconnect becouse of sim issues or something. Server population would naturally drop down to the limit.

I think I'd say on a 32 player servers, maybe make 8 reserved and 24 for regular players. On a 16 player server maybe 4 reserved and 12 regular.

Lets not say reserved but priority.

32 player limit.

Priority players could join, but normal and priority player number cant be more than 40.

32 priority player limit.

No limit on how many people can buy priority. :)

What if instead of a whole new character skin, people who donate money just got a gold visor or something? I know it's proabably not as simple to do as I'm thinking, but surely it's simpler than a whole character skin...maybe not though as you'd have to make visor colors changeable!
