[Idea] Unlockable/Discoverable Supertechnologies

Hi! Maybe these suggestions have already been posted and I'm just writing some redundant feedback, but after having played SE for quite a bunch of extremely entertaining hours, I've become inspired with an idea that I would like to share here:

As the title reads: Unlockable/Discoverable Supertechnologies

What I mean by this is that after we've managed to survive from our initial (crash)landing on the planet surface of whatever planet we've decided to bless with our technological presence. Built a sustainable production environment and designed a radical spaceship that blasts us off into the great beyond. Found the scarcely available uranium and created a true space exploring vessel, we are then eligible to discover and unlock new technologies in the vastness of space.

For instance by delving into the ancient wreckage of ships or ruins from long lost, highly advanced alien civilisations. With perhaps the needed peril of still (semi)functional weaponry that isn't particularly fond of our intrusion, posing some added challenge to acquiring these powerful bits of engineering knowledge that had been lost to the ages.

Examples of possible technologies:

- Cloaking devices (so we can render our ships invisible or highly camouflaged, hiding beacons and antenna's from others until we are right under their noses.)

- Energy shields/force fields (Have your enemies shoot up a semi-transparent bubble before they get to the softer/tastier bits of your ship that took you so long to mine, assemble, place and weld.)

- Long range teleporters (Wouldn't it be convenient to be able to beam straight to your space base or back down to the planet surface without having to take your ship for the umpteenth time?)

- Deep space sensors (why should we wait until we're in range of someone else's broadcasting range if we could pick them up from much further away?)

- Ion cannons (Yes we have turrets and missiles, but Ion canons really give you that "SPACE" vibe, don't they? And ofcourse, they would do a whopping load of more damage)

- Sub-space drive (The jump drive is already a supertechnology on it's own. But some people like to fly to their destination themselves, so why not let them do that a little faster and with less obstacles)

- And much more, one only needs to let their imagination run wild to come up with a number of technologies that could be considered as supertechnologies which once caused great civilisations to thrive before some unforeseen crisis ended their existence altogether.

Incentive to explore

In my opinion, the prospect of finding new, more powerful technology (blocks) to pursue and create would make a great incentive to start exploring the vast solar system after having built a solid base and interplanetary ship.

Adding challenge to acquiring these technologies (through combat or otherwise) would add a new level of gameplay to the game which would further drive my desire to build better designed projects.

Not getting these technologies right off the bat and having to explore the solar system to find them would give the game a dimension of "End-game" attainables.

Not sure if any of this makes sense or if any of it is feasible, but it's just some of the ideas that sprang up while playing this wonderful game.

Hope it contributes to something! :)

A similar idea has already been implemented ("Escape from mars" custom map) and I really liked it: to get more advanced technologies, you need to investigate and hack computers, etc. I’m extremely disappointed with what the tech tree looks like at the current moment and I’m sure that this topic could be one of the examples of how you can redo it and add interesting content to the game. I'm not sure that new technologies will be added to the game, but at least you can change the way you get old ones for a longer and more exciting game. I hope the author of the topic will not judge me for a certain change in the "course")

I like the Idea of creating a gps signal at a certain point in the "midgame" when you've managed to build a space ship with jump drive, in order to give you a new goal.

With new advanced techs like you've mentioned, there would be also a reward.

In general the base game should add a bit more content in terms of wreckages or asteroid bases to explore. I never liked the current pirate faction ships with their insane aiming turrets. (In a game without shield tech)
