I'd like the ability to choose what the H2/o2 generators produce.

The H2/o2 generator has one input and two possible outputs. I dislike that the game leaves the player in limbo as to what will come out.

Correct me if i am wrong, but the H2/o2 generator produces either hydrogen or oxygen?

There are several situations where i would need the block to only make hydrogen, and no oxygen, making all produced o2 a complete waste.

I'd also like to be able to rely entirely on oxygen farms, in space, without always filling my o2 tanks with the ice i meant to use for fuel.

I'm sure there's someone out there with a use for an H2/o2 gen that only makes o2 as well.

On that note, I propose:A drop-down menu similar to the battery that allows for choosing H2, 02 or Auto (vanilla function).

*BUMP* I want this too, I hope this gains more traction soon!

Yes, definately I'd love it that my H2 generators would NEVER produce Oxygen! Please add a toggle to force only ice-to-hydrogen conversion. There's plenty of Oxygen sources to take advantage of, that are now wasted potential...

Really worst part is that when I dock any ship to my station, ALL H2/O2 generators kick in to make my astronaut feel comfortable with fresh air flowing into the cockpit, while such joy consumes 100kW per each small grid generator and 500kW(?) per large one that exist on all my ships and station - I have to jump out of the cockpit to keep my batteries charging since this "overzealous life-support" quite soon consumes between 1-2 MW !! (this with merely 1 generator on a small rover and a scout ship, and 4 on a small hydro miner + 1-2 station gens, usually those alone drain nearly as much as my wind turbines and solar panels can produce...)

I thought it produced both? If not, they really should, with an option to continue producing even when excess of one needs to get vented because of no room.

It has always produced one at a time. First it was only Oxygen, then since they added Hydrogen, it switches between them based on what's needed. I haven't tested if it actually reduces hydrogen production rate when it's alternating between O2 and H2, but it was stated somewhere that it can only process a unit of Ice into one of the gases at a time, not simultaneously.

And to your suggestion no, such realism isn't needed and wouldn't work when hydrogen burning in thrusters doesn't use oxygen. Even if it did... Still feels like it would just introduce totally unnecessary and tedious "tank-juggling" and they'd probably be just unbalanced all the time. I've also heard the "ignore the full oxygen tank" idea before and I'm very afraid it would come with a high risk of a bugged and broken feature which deletes all your Ice even though every tank is already full...

no offense, but I think that would be more complexity with limited benefit to gameplay.

I design my builds so the literally never need to make o2 from ice. Yet, every time my char takes a breath the h2/o2 generators kick on.

My current workaround involves disabling every single vent and o2 tank when I turn the generators on to replenish fuel. Adding a ‘hydrogen, oxygen, both’ drop down menu to the generators would make it so I didn’t have to do that.

i would rather the gasses where created at the same time in a way that was realistic to the ratio real ice could be separated into h2 and o2

I suggested this 2 or 3 years ago on the forum and the devs responded that they'd look into it. I'd really love to see this happen, especially now that Keen "fixed" the issue where Oxygen could only flow one way through conveyor sorters but Hydrogen could flow both ways. Now that both H2 and O2 can flow both ways, there is no way to segregate gas production except by having two completely separate conveyor networks.

I suppose with some clever engineering AND programming, one could have separate conveyor networks connected only via connectors and shuffle ice from your main network to your "hydrogen only" network, but then you still run into problems with refilling your suit hydrogen if you have a life support program that turns off your H2/O2 generators.

Yeah, I very much agree!

It's a nightmare to keep balance between O2 and H2 in your base, if everything is conveyored. If I want to produce H2 to refuel my ships, then I will produce O2 too, and that fills up my Oxygen Tanks, and from there essentially my airlocks are not functioning, because the air can't go anywhere.
