Guided Missiles vs Dumb-fire rockets- game play improvement suggestion

Currently, we have both fixed Rocket launchers and Missile turrets, but both use the same ammunition, and neither of them track the target once fired ( turrets track targets but the rocket they fire does not ).

As a result missile turrets will waste large amounts of ammo as they cannot lead targets when targeted by the turrets AI, and are tricky to use manually at any kind of range against moving targets.

I would therefore like to put forward a suggestion that Missile Turrets fire missiles that track targets actively once fired- there are already mods that perform this function but it is sorely missing from the Vanilla game and would add a lot of play value, making PvP battles far more entertaining, especially in Survival mode knowing that you aren't simply wasting valuable ammunition with every shot fired at any kind of range and/or against moving targets.

Range and damage caused could remain the same, as could component cost- it simply requires adding the tracking feature to the Missile itself ( a new projectile that only Missile turrets can use, or a new launcher altogether to go with the new Missile ).

Think about it...

Vanilla missiles are such a lame let-down. You spend all this time getting rare metals to make the ammo (platinum and uranium), and the damn things miss miss MISS. Can't spell missile without MISS.

PMWs with warheads on them can be made to be guided, and don't require rare resources like platinum or uranium. As a result, these weapons are often made in the early game when you don't typically have access to these rare metals. The downside of PMWs is how bulky and cumbersome they are. They're very large and hard to spam, especially in a heated fight.

So once you finally "upgrade" to the easier-to-make and easily spammable missile ammo and start mass producing them, it's terribly useless in practice because they can't hit shit.

Vanilla missiles absolutely should have some form of guidance feature. The agility of the missiles should be kept reasonably low, so fast and agile targets can dodge them, and have point-defense turrets shoot them down as they loop back.

Look, all the work has been done for you ( the dev team )- the models for the launchers need a little bit of work to look more like vanilla ones, but other than that, just need to add the same targeting logic to missiles fired by turrets. It would improve game-play no end... ( so would a couple more options for larger vanilla turrets and fixed weapons, but it's been 5 years so, yeah... )

I think that non-homing missiles shouldn't use rare metals like Pt and U.

They are just dumb tubes packed with explosives (==Mg).

Strange that Warhead block does not require nor U nor Pt and it does much more damage than dumb missiles.

For small homing missiles I would understand Pt and for large even U.

I'd say it's a balance issue- rockets should use the least expensive materials ( magnesium & Iron ), homing missiles require additional platinum, and the warheads need Uranium on top.

The resources some items require compared to others is rather strange, as is their mass vs volume though that is less of an issue and more of a quirk. I'd really just like better weapons that are balanced so that we don;t have to rely on mods constantly to build anything remotely fun or interesting...

I would support this so long as there is some counter to it otherwise PVP will just come down to who can spam the most missile turrets since non guided weapons would be rendered pointless.

Easy- decoys. As it is, the homing missiles in the video I linked to like to chase after blocks that have been broken off of the ship they were targetting; mounting decoys or releasing them from merge blocks and connectors easily works to balance against missile spam.

It's worth noting that you can spam unguided rockets at close range very, very easily, and there is ZERO to counter it. All you have to worry about is running out of ammo ( in survival mode )...

I would really like them to fix the leading in the missile turrets as they are incredibly inaccurate. And adding tracking missiles could fix that issue.

BUMP- please learn the difference between dumb-fire rockets, and Missiles which should lock onto targets- it's a very simple thing, target tracking has already been done by modders so why on earth is it not default behaviour in vanilla? It would make combat far more enjoyable and prevent so much wasted ammo/resources from 99% of missiles missing their targets.

BUMP- if Marek is promising more weapons, this should be at the top of the list...
