GPS points relative to grid.

So the GPS system is cool, as is the autopilot system.

What would be cooler however is the ability to anchor GPS points relative to grids instead of just static. This would allow better use of autopilot for all kinds of uses, and also clearly indicate where to dock for players, etc.

To balance this, you could make these GPS points only visible and usable if the relevant grid has a friendly antenna in range. So if the instruction comes up in the autopilot but the GPS point isn't viable it would stop and output the error.

I think this in concert with the concepts proposed in

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/infinite-beacon-range-and-possibility-to-set-beacon-for-jump-drive-target

would work well together.

Beacon signals as automatic gps points is kinda already a thing with scripting and/or radar mod. This would give a consistent anchor for setting up docking to ships etc.

Wouldn't it be better if the autopilot had a relative GPS tolerance setting, that way a player can set how close a autopilot gets to a GPS coordinates. Might be better as you can tell a automated ship to get within a certain distance and wait, for instance a warship told to hold on standby within 2 km of the antenna-ed enemy base.

No. That's inherently less precise. Sure it could be a separate feature but it's not as useful as moving gps points.

Obsolete? Already possible to make autopilot work relatively.
