Folders for Blueprints

Considered (Not Planned)

Having lots of blueprints, from our own creations and all of cool creation that you've subscribed to on the workshop, the blueprint menu get crowded and having all those blueprint just gets harder to find the right blueprint

having folders would solve this issue being able organize your blueprints into folders like having all of the wheeled vehicles in one folder would make finding wheeled vehicles easier and that goes for other types of blueprints as well.

Blueprint subfolders are already a thing (for local blueprints only though), it's just that the UI doesn't have a "new folder" button to make it obvious and it also doesn't seem to be a way to move them to folders from the game.

So what you can do is go to %appdata/SpaceEngineers/Blueprints/local and organize things manually.

This would be very handy and in addition I would like to see another option other then "Exploration" when uploading a new ship to the workshop. It's been 4 years now, surely they can come up with more options for us to pick from..........

I think a lot other UI elements will benefit from folders as well, not just for blueprints.

For example folders for location(GPS) markers(for those who prefer tagging asteroids), folders for ship components (folder for groups, folder per ship and per component type), for mods and scripts...

+1, also maybe folders for savegames as well

I think there already are 'save folders' - scenarios have nested folders (or at least had) for each 'step' and scenario-autosave that also uses same folders.

But would have been nice to have similar thing for regular saves (or there is?)

P.S. I like how scenarios work, but I still don't get it why devs decided to do independent scenarios and not inworld-ones. Would have been so much better to go toward random-encounter ship and trigger a 'protect ship from pirates' mission instead or 'ship lost propulsion, assist with getting to target'...

Yes... We need this cleaned up and retooled for our special use. The existing folder thing (which up til now I did not even know existed) works but it is not intuitive, require manual manipulation outside of the game, and does not seem to go with the current updated screens. I want a folder that will just open a sub-folder where I still have the same viewability. Also, it would be nice to be able to rename, move, delete, jot notes, etc, by right clicking on the Blue Print Image without having to open it up in workshop mode.

god please yes...

How about a "favourites" folder where you collect your most used blueprints for quick access

Additionally, I would like to have another choice besides "Exploration" when submitting a new ship to the workshop. Nowadays, I certainly they can provide us with more possibilities

Game Changer, especially for those with a endless blueprints list.

Hello! I would like to suggest that folders are no longer saved into appdata because that is considered temporary by windows.

I have lost all my work lately because that folder was considered temporary when i reinstalled windows, and only my user files got saved, not my game files on appdata.

Please do not use the appdata folder for saving these longterm things. Only put the reference to the appdata folder of where the actual creations are located on the harddrive, and preferably let the player set where it wants to save its game saves, blueprints and creations.

> not my game files on appdata

It does persist even when you reinstall windows (if you aren't formatting your disk), but it probably isn't a part of any backup mechanics. If you didn't wipe your disk, old appdata should still be around somewhere in users' folder.

But I do agree that things like saves and non-workshop blueprints shouldn't be in appdata.

I remember looking for that folder, or an explanation of why did my appdata reseted when i selected "keep user files" in the process. I am no longer sure about the process. It could be windows repair too. It was bugging out, unable to load desktop. It was black screen essentially. I tried to repair it somehow i barely remember, and that is the result of it. Besides space engineers has got it's own folder already that is not even size limited unlike the appdata one.

Besides all this: https://www.xda-developers.com/appdata/ this claims non essential data should be stored in the appdata folder for example temporary files.

If you 'keep personal files', contents of Appdata and of Program Data are not removed, but either land in Windows.old or stay under your old user folder. On practice program store a lot of data there, both essential and not.

>claims non essential data should be stored in the appdata folder, for example temporary files.

That is partially accurate. There are specific folders for temporary files in in app data that get wiped fairly often. Logs, crash reports, user settings also count as non-essential, but not temporary.

I highly appreciate your accuracy, although i am outmost certain that i remember the checkbox for the "keep user files" or "keep user data" in the process, and that with appdata is excluded of it since i have not got it.

I have indeed lost my save files not only for this game, against other files located in my user folder on C, that are preserved. This is not very up to discussion. I dare not to hope that i am just not very accurate in what am i doing at all times, not recognizing the possibility to actually have the appdata preserved in any finicky way (other than it being in its place) intentionally

Is that any possible that i have got appdata in a folder that is not in its usual place? like an appdata.backup folder?

If it stayed under old user name it's likely marked as hidden and you will need to 'show hidden files', may be even 'show system files' to see old user folder. My knowledge on the topic might be out of date, it might be somewhere else in Windows 11, I suggests googling it.
