Feedback: Thoughts about Keen's DLC Policies

Not Enough Votes

I know we've all given flak to Keen for making DLC after DLC, and that's not why I'm here today. Why I'm here, is the blatant disregard for honesty. In Marek Rosa's Latest Space Engineers Blog he tells us "All Content is not pay to win but rather cosmetic in nature" - The only issue I raise with this is that it is totally untrue of ATLEAST one DLC - possibly more, but the Economy Pack Deluxe is NOT cosmetic in nature; it gates usage of stores and contracts behind DLC, a functionality critical to multi and even single-player in certain respects. I would hope you don't take my feedback as hateful, but I am upset with this lack of honesty, because it is clearly not befitting of the game I knew and loved. If I may be so bold, even just admitting that the one DLC /may/ be slightly pay to win, would be enough to convince me of your ethics once more; but as things stand, you look like a liar because of your leaders blog.

Sincerely,

Nysch

Generally Speaking most things in Design fall into one of two categories. "Functional" and "Cosmetic" - pay to win is just a buzz word for "Functional Design for Sale".

Except you can still play the game and encounter the NPC stations with those blocks, and even USE those blocks... You just can't build them unless you have the DLC.

Also, there is an ATM block that is not in the DLC that allows access to your money.

They aren't liars.

I hope you don't take this comment as hateful, but it sounds like you don't really know what you are talking about. Can you elaborate on what actual "pay to win" functionality is locked in the DLC that you cannot access without it?

Did you not get them memo? It's pay to win because you can't hardly operate multiplayer without the DLC, honestly, the fact it's "Economy Pack" should give away that it's "Pay to win" to begin with. Try competing in a modern market with a handicap like "You need to ship all your goods through a third parties store"...I can promise you it won't lead to a successful business venture in the real world.

Not that it overly matters to me, I more value honesty and truth, whether or not the DLC is p2w, is irrevelevant to me, because I don't stand to gain anything seeing as I already own it. My Biggest Problem, is with the fact that they /intentionally/ overlook the topic of functionality in their DLC Reports.

You can use the Store and Contract blocks without DLC. Their lack of utility on player grids is a flaw in the game itself, and not a pay wall by DLC. The ATM and Dispenser blocks are feature-limited versions of the Store block and offer no real benefit besides their reduced size.

I'm not sure how you've all managed to get it so backwards. The ATM and vending machine blocks are in the DLC, the Store and Contract blocks were part of the Economy update and were, and remain, a part of the core game that any player can build and use.
