Extra hydrogen engine settings.
So right now the hydrogen engine always automatically fills it's tank. It will also first use ice from an o2/h2 generator before using it's tank's fuel, taking ice that is also needed for oxygen/hydrogen for your suit/tanks or other things.
The tank should have an option to turn off ice usage from an o2/h2 generator. So you can have everything hooked up to a conveyor grid without problems.
Also, the tank currently uses around 20~30 ice per second. I've only tested this on around 566kW load in a survival game, so I'm not sure if this remains the same at any load. If it's at any load, functionality like reactors where it will consume less ice with less load would be nice. (after all, our cars don't consume the same amount of fuel at any rpm either) If the consumption becomes higher at higher load, it feels kinda high.
Haven't had a chance to look much at the engine yet. On space spawn, I stick 4 solar panels on the ship right away and turn off the gen to save ice. Are you sure it's not using it's tank and the H2/O2 gen is just refilling it right away. Don't think the O2/H2 gen has any storage of it's own and the engine doesn't use ice for H2 directly as far as I know.

I agree. The hydrogen engine needs better controls. In fact, the management and control of gases (oxygen and hydrogen) really needs attention. This is similar to the problem with oxygen when creating airlocks. It takes a careful sequence to use oxygen tanks with airlocks because the O2/H2 generator will always try to fill them if both are enabled (and then they can't b used to depressurize the airlock). In both cases (the hydrogen engine and airlocks), the only solution I've found is careful management of the O2/H2 generator's enabled status (ensuring that equipment that I don't want it filling isn't activated at the same time). But, this can't be done if the hydrogen engine is the only means of power. The only other solution I know of is to make a flow control valve out of two connectors facing each other. This isn't too bad of a solution for large ships and stations, but is too bulky for small ships. So, yeah... better controls over gas flow would help a lot.
