Customizable gamepad controls

After the "decoration pack II" update, the gamepad controls were changed. While some of these changes are pretty useful, many are difficult to understand / to learn.

I would like to suggest making all the gamepad controls customizable, just like the keyboard controls.

It would be good to at least get the option, to switch between "old" and "new" gamepad controls for those who prefer the previous settings.

Benedikt i agree with you, This is something that they must fix. One thing that would be good too is that if you can have multiable controll input (Like two separat joysticks and pedals at the same time or a joystick and Throttle lever)/Patrik

No, the new controls are simply not suited to the type of game space engineers is. It's almost suitable for a run-and-gun game but it is NOT suitable to a fly around in open space and build game. =|

I feel that keen owes me the controls from space engineers 1.0. The new controls are absolutely awful. I'm a 6,000 hour player who has placed/cut several million blocks and NEVER used any input method other than joystick + a few keyboard hotkeys.

Just began trying out the gamepad and I really like it but there is two issues that will keep me from using it. One is the steam customization is bugged with space engineers. I understand thats an issue on a seperate topic. But the other goes to the heart of this topic with is ingame customization. I really like how the ui for the gamepad is setup. There is one serious problem though. The A and B buttons control the vertical controls (i.e. flying upwards and downwards) in order to do this I must remove my thumb from the joystick in order to access these controls. This seriously hinders smooth flight. If you can't fly seamlessly in a space game. The gamepad becomes rather useless. I tried changing the A/B buttons to both the joystick buttons and the bumper buttons for I can access the vertical controls without removing my thumbs from the joysticks. However as the other issue I mentioned steam control customization is bugged. So until there is an ingame customization or a larger selection of controller defaults I see no reason to use a gamepad.

I would really like to see fully customisible controls too. The 'flight alternative' does some good stuff for ships but makes jet-pack flight very hard when working on creating stuff - they should be separately configurable. I also play Elite Dangerous and I have a HOTAS set-up and ED lets me configure this in lots of detail. Also, War Thunder has a similar (if not slightly crazy) set-up that also allows my rudder pedals to be used how I want as well. It would be really awesome to be able to freely assign axis to my creations as well as generally for the game controls set-up... for example, using an axis of a gamepad, joystick or throttle to control the thrust override directly would make all sorts of 'modes' easier to use, such as VTOL.

Not every creation needs the same control set-up and having the ability to configure the generic stuff for the game as well as assigning it to 'Flight', 'Ground Vehicle', 'Jet-pack', 'Walking' etc... but then also allowing a final mapping decision to be customisable within a ships cockpit would allow people to experience piloting creations in more natural ways. 2022 Still no update for gamepad controls. It is especially painful if you want to play on a Wooting keyboard and utilize both keyboard AND gamepad inputs at the same time. The HUD also keeps flicking between the keyboard and gamepad hints whenever you hold a gamepad input and move your mouse or press a keyboard button.
