Creative Inventory Limits

It would be nice if we could set Creative Mode to use Survival Inventory limits. That way when you switch to creative mode to fix something, or tweak a scenario, inventories don't suck everything into a single container for whatever reason and go beyond the container limit then suddenly delete everything past that limit when you switch back to survival mode.

Perhaps a checkbox in the additional options when setting Creative to also use inventory limits.

While I agree with the topic, I don't feel your post adequately covers all the reasons infinite inventory should go away.

The single most important reason: You cannot design survival ready/flyable ships in creative.

This is due to:

  • Infinite inventory, as mentioned in OP
  • Power. Specifically batteries fully charging nearly instantly.
  • Fuel (Hydrogen in this case)

Infinite inventory specifically causes two issues:

  • Inventory truncation, as listed.
  • Mass. If you want to design a miner in creative, you need to know how much inventory space is available for ore, so you can test engine performance and power resources when fully loaded at capacity. This is already a problem with inventory multipliers as well, which I'd also like to see disappear.

Power issues:

  • Batteries instantly charging means you can't tell if your solar panel system is sufficient.
  • Now, I don't know if this is true now, but in the past, block power usage in creative didn't match survival.

Fuel:

  • Currently, if you have any tank or H2 generator on your ship, it's instantly enough to supply every thruster on your ship. This prevents you from properly designing your ship to have sufficient fuel flow to your engines.
  • This means tanks should not instantly fill and provide endless fuel themselves, and H2 gens should output only the proper amount of hydrogen as it would normally output in survival. The difference in these two modes should just be that creative mode doesn't require ice to produce the fuel, the H2 gen just makes it for free.

Now, I understand many of these restrictions may not be popular, depending on how players use creative mode (how?). If there's an issue, I would be ok with implementing these restrictions in "survival mode with creative tools on" as a compromise. Of course, this mode needs to be advertised more, as I'm not sure how many players are aware it exists now.

There is of course already the option to enable Space Master creative tools in a survival world. Then the world around you will run on all the survival rules while you can build and spawn stuff. I tend to do that for this specific reason.

I haven't used it much, mostly because I forget and it's hard to find.

Does it address all the above concerns?

It's survival mode, but with admin powers so everything behaves like survival, but you can place blocks instantly, and cut/paste blueprints in. You can Shift+F10 to summon ice to fill the gens/tanks etc...

I totally disagree @Vadum and this idea, as mentioned by @Malware , putting in a survival world and go into creative works already as how the way the author of this idea wished.

I agree, This would be a welcome minor change.

It would also make optimizing ships built in creative for survival much easier.

You wouldn't need mods such as but in no way limited to "Midspace's Admin Helper Commands" to change server gamemode mid-flight.

The problem with using survival mode, is your ships still drain resources and other things happen in the survival mode that I don't want happening while I'm creating a scenario. Such as the player's energy levels and all that dropping. Even with invuln mode on you get "warning no oxygen" warnings often.

Voxel tools is something I use in creative mode too that I don't think you get in survival even with admin powers.

I agree, I never intended my comment to be a rejection of the suggestion, just an alternative. It works for me because I want everything to function as in survival.

Alt+f10 for Admin Tools btw, check the first box to enable creative mode tools. (Including voxel hand)

Giving this post a push. I think some options should be added to creative mode.

I don't agree at all. Creative mode is for fooling around with endless ressources. Go into survival mode if you want to test your stuff in survival. The actual settings are good enough, like atmo miners going down because the thrusters can't lift your quadrillion kg of ore. Good scripters maintain the balance in their mods as well. Does this thread really still needs to exist? I think NO.

Aww, thats cute, you don't want changes to creative mode so you attack a thread claiming it has no reason to exist.

Creative mode is for fooling around, which you can do without infinite inventory storage containers. Creative mode should simply have an option to enable these extra creative features, or rather, disable them as they would default to on. The same way you can set welding speeds and such. It'd just add a new option to inventory sizes, "unlimited (creative only)". Possibly a few other checkboxes to disable certain creative only features.

But instead, you came here to crap on someone's thread because being constructive is too hard to do apparently.
