Change ship weight display to Tonne / Megagram

I think that the current method of displaying the ship weight is needlessly precise and just makes it more difficult to judge important weight limits or doing math to determine engine requirements.

In a game where most ships are well over 10 tonnes it makes no sense to display it's weight (and changes in it's weight) in Kilograms. Most of the time when you are mining in a ship you are picking up at least 1000 kg ( 1 tonne / megagram ) and on a small mining ship you are easily picking up 30 tonnes. I suggest that the weight is displayed in tonnes.

Lets compare the numbers. For example I have a 50 tonne ship that can carry 10 tonne of ore.

The numbers are not often simple so I'm going to make the numbers kind of complex.

Current Game:

50193.00 kg

60258.00 kg

Proposed:

50.19 tonne

60.25 tonne

Single kilograms are not going to make the difference in the overwhelming majority of cases, neither are grams, it's just a mess of needless numbers,

I suggest changing the grid mass under info in the game menu to the amount currently displayed on the HUD.

The HUD value should represent the ship in tonnes as it's more relevant to ship performance and capacity. I think this isn't seen as a problem currently because people simply don't use the weight value, changing this to a more manageable value would encourage players to understand their ship weight and capacity easier.

If weight unit was to be changed, it'd be better to simply use scientific notation.

The problem here is readability, scientific notation is adding needless complexity.

Things don't change just because time goes by, real engineers don't fix things that aren't broken.

Mega-grams is not technically SI but is just a metric extension of an SI unit. Since the game already uses metric it wouldn't make sense to use tons, a larger unit would be easier to comprehend quickly without taking any meaningful precision from the value displayed. Mega-grams and tonnes are the same amount, it's just mega-grams is more consistent with metric unit names.

Is that sarcasm? It doesn't come across well over writing.

In the case of distance it wouldn't make sense, because distance values rarely get past 10's of Mega-meters.

The problem I have is that the unit size for ship mass is needlessly precise and makes the number harder to work with quickly when the weight of the vehicle is important. Four of the numbers displayed are essentially useless to a pilot.

Is there an option to switch it back to kg? I was used to that. But my game seems to only show 't' now.
