[Block Suggestion] Charged armor plate

As a possible answer to weak armor, and people's desire for shields a new armor block type:

Charged hull plate:

  • Thin armor plate (catwalk thickness) with higher weapon-damage resistance when powered.
  • Expense / power draw vs damage resistance / hp to be the balancing factors.
  • Does not add regenerative health - just a strategic boost to certain damage types.
  • Two possible ways of implementing this:
    a) Placed on top of armor as an armor layer.
    b) As an attachment that enhances the armor block it is placed on.
  • Expense (power and resource) can prevent over-use, as can practical concerns like physical placement, impractical over doors & windows, access for repair.
  • Adds a design and engineering challenge in keeping with the games objectives.
  • Theoretically more plausible than projected shields.

Thoughts?

Suppose it added damage reduction to all nearby blocks instead? That way, there's a game in finding the plate chargers embedded in the hull and punching holes once they're down. And you can cluster them (not stacking the reduction, that would be OP) for extra consistency in areas where you really need to always have that extra protection.

Also, I'm strongly in favor of this using power primarily or only. The only thing that otherwise uses power in combat is thrust, and that caps out pretty quickly because of surface area and hydrogen thrusters.
