Block request: Advanced Cameras

I'd like to see one or two more cameras blocks added to the game. They could be DLC. In fact they'd make great DLC additions. I believe the mechanics I'm asking for are already in the game.


Type 1:

Gimbled Camera.

Basically, being able to use the mouse to look up, down, left, and right with the mouse. Currently, doing that requires attaching a camera to two rotors, add a remote, add a gyro, etc. Adopting the same functionality as a turret camera (limited to +- 90 degrees would be useful.


Type 2:

Operator Camera.

The advanced camera would be a static camera, EXCEPT it would include at least one TextSurface superimposed on the camera's field of view. The TextSurface would function just like the Transparent LCD Text Surface with the color black being opaque. When piloting any ship, LCDs and text surfaces are wonderful for displaying so much data. When using a remote block and a camera, that's a bit difficult, especially on a large grid build. So having one to three TextSurfaces at the top, left, and right would be especially useful when viewing a camera.

Type 3:

Advanced Camera.

Combines types 2 and 3.


All-in-all, I don't think there's any new functionality to the game, just recombining what exists. I know we have IMyAdvancedDoor in the mix. Why not an IMyAdvancedCamera?

The gimbal should be part of the default camera. Having played using a mod that allows you to rotate the camera by pressing Alt-, it's exquisite suffering to go back to vanilla static cameras.

A protruding camera that provides complete 360-degree rotation would also be interesting. You can achieve this field of view with a turret, but you can't fly a ship while simultaneously controlling a turret.

Also, a camera with a clean lens would make an excellent DLC. Window cleaner isn't free!

Nah, that stupid, painfully obviously fake pixel pattern should just die in a fire. It's as stupid as just overlaying a black-image recording of VHS noise and streaks onto Full HD video and thinking oneself oh-so terribly creative. If Marek is so insistent on having some weird blue screendoor effect across his vision, he can tattoo it to the inside of his eyeballs for all I care.


I just keep manually replacing …\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Textures\GUI\Screens\camera_overlay.dds with an empty texture.

That dirt efect has no function or purpose other that to annoy players. It must be removed.

As for the clear camera DLC? Realy dude? What next, bug fix DLC.


Either pay or get blown up by clang every day, your choice.

I was thinking make the current camera anning, rotate camera view using mouse (like the popular mod)

Then add a new fix more heavily armoured camera with a ew different version for sloped armor

Combine the Operator Camera with picture in picture, where you can designate text fields, meters, video feeds and other HUD elements on the inside of a camera and you've got yourself a deal.
