Block placement distance in survival

I dont get why this topic always dies on old age on this forum. Is it so unusual to build large ships on survial from the scratch without using blueprints that build distance does not matter in survival? Its pretty much impossible to build titan engines in survival because you stand inside the block you try to place.
If this is a matter of game balance for multiplayer then at least make it optional in the game setup to enable the distance (ctrl+mousewheel). When i am playing alone in survival fully on my own i dont need a protection from other players building behind me or whatever this is good for. I cant even come up with a valid reason why this is fixed in survival and not adjustable like in creative.
