Antagonists with Senses for Scenario-DLCs

Idea from a Steam Forum discussion:

You could sell Scenarios as DLCs with an added value, such as replayability, multiplayer, good story, good models, AI antagonists, etc.

The main antagonists for scenarios are drones and turrets. It would be worth making drones/turrets more challenging by letting them use different senses. So we'd have to identify which sense it uses (by looking at it with cameras or sniper zoom, or listening to a sound they make) and use different strategies against them. (At least more different than the current, "get one-shot a dozen times while grinding our way to the turret".)

For example:

  • heat sensitive - need temperature contrast to hit. Hit warm targets (like persons and ships with reactor on) better when it’s cool/night, and worse when it’s hot/day. And v.v. for cold targets (such as ships with reactor off and battery-powered drones). Line of sight.
  • motion sensitive - hit slow moving targets worse and fast moving targets better. Line of sight.
  • sound/vibration sensitive - hit worse when we sneak on certain surfaces / drift with jetpack/thrusters off, and hit better if we stomp on armour blocks or thrusters/jetpacks are on. Attempt to shoot through light armour-type obstacles if they hear us behind, even without line of sight.
  • Visible light sensitive - hit best in the sun and when lights are on, and worse in the dark / in shadow, and also worse at noon and when (sun)light is too bright. Line of sight.

For turrets, the sense affects hitting ability; for unarmed drones, the sense affects tracking ability.

When you release the Weapon Skin DLC that you mentioned, you could have a "drone/turret senses" update for every one at the same time, so we have antagonists to try the weapons against. Just an idea!

PS: Of course, improved intelligence and interesting senses for antagonists (drones) would also be nice to have outside a DLC.

What I refered to as "the Weapon Skin DLC" 2 years ago is now called the Warfare update. So basically my suggestions here are still valid for a potential Warfare 2 update.

Heeey, don’t “senses” sound like a nice addition for the planned Grid AI update…?
