Ability to change movement orientation to "up".

Instead of constantly flying face-forward, since we are indeed in space, we should be able to change our movement orientation to "up" meaning we would move like while swimming or flying like super-man.

At the very least allow us to repair things above us while flying with jetpack like we can do while standing on a surface. This would work like the ability to look around while holding or toggling a button in the Arma game series.

Use 'Space' and 'C'.

You've missed the point.

I kind of get it, I suppose. At first I thought it was something like https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/which-way-is-down-ui-and-ux-polish-needed but it's not.

While flying, don't turn the body to face the direction when necessary, as in, when exceeding the arcs of the space dude's (virtual) shoulder and neck. In all other cases, where facing within the arcs of my (virtual) shoulder and neck, only use arm and view and keep the rump steady.

You can sort of do that already by holding Alt while looking around. This keeps the body steady and only rotates the view.

On a side note, domingo, C is a colossally unwieldy mapping for Up, just as requiring a hard-coded Ctrl as a modifier. All proper shooter games put Crouch or Duck on Ctrl, or allow to do so, which is easily reached with the pinkie. Expecting players to move your bloody thumb over the Alt key and screw with your WASD finger placement just to reach C (even more so if you resorted to the index finger) should be punishable by boot to the head.

Thanks, Keen, for breaking all the forum links by changing /general/ to /pc/. And people look at me funny when I say that console ports ruin games for both sides …

Anyway, corrected link https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/which-way-is-down-ui-and-ux-polish-needed
