Suggestion to Improve the Camera Block (Image Rotation / View Orientation Option)
Hello, Space Engineers team!
I’m an active player and frequently use the Camera block for observation, docking, weapon targeting, and building “video systems” on ships and stations. Currently, the view orientation is strictly tied to the physical orientation of the block when it’s placed, which creates several usability issues.
For example:
If I mount a camera on the underside of a vehicle or on the ceiling of a room, the view ends up upside down, making it hard to navigate and interpret what I’m seeing.
If I want to place a camera on the side of a vehicle to look forward from that side (like a side mirror), the current mechanics don’t provide a comfortable or intuitive result. Trying to adjust angles manually rarely gives a natural-looking view.
I’d like to suggest one of the following improvements (I believe the second option would be more versatile):
Add a new block type: an overhead-mount camera that can be attached “from below” while still delivering a correctly oriented view without any inversion.
(Preferred) Add a simple “Image Rotation” option to the camera block’s interface—for example, rotation by 90°/180°/270° and a flip/mirror function. This would let players adjust the view independently of how the block is physically mounted. With this feature, the same camera could be used in many configurations: mounted on the bottom, side, or ceiling, etc.
This feature would greatly expand design possibilities for ships and bases, make docking and monitoring much easier, and allow for more convenient setups like “rear-view” or “side-mirror” camera feeds.
Thank you for your work on the game, and I’d appreciate it if you could consider this suggestion.
