Block ***Access*** Configuration Filter (Factions)
I notice that when playing in a faction, especially as a leader in that faction, you want to allow for more than one person in your faction to access certain blocks (cockpits, safe zones, cargo containers, spawns), but you don't want to allow *every* faction member to openly have access. Of course there is the option to hack, but when I think of group collaberations and huge factions, there are things that I want my other fellow leaders to be able to change, and there are things that I don't want certain other faction members to change, especially within safe zones, where grinding is already going to be off, and hacking is not an option, but you still want a certain faction member to be able to whitelist their grids for instannce, however you do not want *any* member to be able to. Another thing is that seeing as if I were to use a gravity drive as many might call it, I can already bypass safe zone filter to get my grids in, and all I have to do at that point is dock to a terminal connector, and as long as I am in their faction, I could totally shut their zone down, assuming things like uranium/zone chip cargos as well as possibly safe zones themselves are faction shared (even if you are once again still blacklisted, or not whitelisted.) I would like to allow certain trusted friends to be able to also station and unstation my own grids too, despite the majority of ownership belonging to me. They have to do the extra work of placing thousands of blocks to attain grid majority, only to unstation it. Often times they don't even have the PCU to do that, let alone accept the grid from me in order to station and unstation it.
Here are the pros: Dedicated factions can most definitely have much greater and safer areas (seeing as if I wanted my faction founder to access or spawn at my current spawn kit (set to no-share because I do not want any and every faction member to just be able to spawn there), I would have to completely share it with *everyone* in my faction to allow him to spawn there, which much is less safe especially in open factions which accept all. Having trusted people to also move my stations while I am away is something I am okay with other players doing with my grids too, but the station and unstation configuration and filter abilities are likely best at another time, I just think it'd be a good idea to allow certain people to access doors, cargos, basically any terminal, while being able to restrict others. Personally, I share my safe zones with my faction often times, because there is no other way for me to have someone else like my own faction leader access it when grinding is off. It must either allow *only me / all of my faction / everyone*, and those options given to me do not allow for me to just add me and my leader. I do think it would be pretty hecking cool to have some players able to weld and build inside of safe zones too, without enabling welding and building for everybody. Maybe even grinding, though I still would be nervous about letting *anyone* do that in my zone just yet.
The cons I see are that it would take quite some work to implement this to every terminal block in the game, possibly also stationing/unstationing capabilities, and the safe zones too. When the safe zones already have a configuration filter of their own, it would likely be confusing. Just seeing an access configuration option for every terminal block would likely be a much larger change than I am making it out to be, all in the control panel UI. Not only that, but I can think of ways to abuse this, and I do not doubt that a block access filter will come with problems of its own.
I still do think it is worth it. Right now, if a new recruit in my faction wanted to, without being whitelisted on my zone, still get into it, dock with my station (shared with me and my founder), and they'd pretty much have access to everything in the terminal. Spawn kits should definitely see a change or filter in who all can spawn there at least, seeing as that is the biggest problem I am having in a large faction. I keep them shared because it is annoying to have every faction member place a kit or door of their own, and have them all set their contributions to no share, because not doing that would create the same problem we are trying to solve. This update could most definitely add a good new touch to multiplayer, however I still wonder if it might be something people can take advantage of.
