I believe that grid storage should not be made.

I think adding grid storage is a regrettable decision for this game. By adding it, it removes the potential or need for grid storage systems, by just allowing you to have a lazy hangar with one of those grid-storers in it. It has been added in mods and it shouldn't be added to vanilla.

On the contrary, this upcoming update should add more QOL features to Space Engineers, like actually being able to automate farms easily, the smooth delay when you rotate your craft like In SE2, and more fixes.

Its likely a performance concern. Even if a ship is stationary, the server is still keeping track of it and processes everything that its blocks do. So taking it out of the world while letting you keep it for later will free up server resources. It also lets people build more on PCU limited servers, like the official ones. No point in letting a mining ship hog memory and PCU when you aren't using it.
