Add better bulk welding

Hey guys,

I've been playing SE for about 50 hours and most of this time has followed a fairly simple routine; I have a resource shortage, so I build a new mining ship and get more resources, etc. But I finally built a huge mining ship and mined a few million iron.

Now I want to build some really big newer ships, but I have a problem, which is that I don't have enough power to charge them. This should not be that big a deal since I have plenty of resources with which to build more power, right? Wrong.

Solar power is a big problem because of battery jank (separate issue), but also because they involve subgrids with CTCs to aim at the sun. You can't project subgrids. So it's not exactly feasible to just project a giant line of solar panel towers and weld them up.

Meanwhile you can project a giant line of wind turbines, but well, this presents its own problems. Since the shape is not flat you can't quite just pass a normal welding ship over the whole thing. Even building a welding ship and blueprint specially shaped to fit each other, you have to cut out some turbines that you can't reach, and even after that, it's still a very, very slow process.

If you want to scale up mining, you can build a bigger mining ship; ore patches are pretty simple in shape, you can run many drills in parallel, and you can throw out stone so it's pretty easy. If you want to scale up refining or assembling, you can just build more of those machines. But it seems like there is no good solution for scaling up welding. There's no process that can make welding a thousand wind turbines anything less than a thousand times as long as welding one.

Part of the issue is how blocks must be welded sequentially, which limits parallelism. But another part of the issue is the need to position welders very precisely in a lot of different positions and weld everything in the right order to actually weld everything. This means the player can't just throw a catchall bulk welder solution at the problem. Not to mention the lag issues of using many welders at once.

I'm not exactly sure what the best solution should be. But I think the "good" solutions might involve more serious changes to how welding works. So for SE1 I think there should be a "good enough" solution that enables bulk welding even if it's not ideal.

The obvious candidate would be some kind of mk2 welder block that just welds a lot faster and with a much bigger area of effect and maybe consumes platinum to make. But I think this doesn't exactly solve the problem, it just makes it harder to notice. So I'd suggest a kind of projector mk2 which also welds the projections from a conveyor connection. This could probably consume some pretty substantial resources to build, like 1000kg of platinum ingots or something.

It shouldn't be way harder to spend my iron ingots than it was to get them.
