Remove LS and LY Spawn Distances - Proposed Improvement

'd like to propose an adjustment to the current spawning system for space pods. As it stands, players can sometimes spawn light-seconds (LS) or even light-years (LY) away from the center of the system. This creates several major problems:

  • LS spawns force players to travel for an unnecessarily long time just to reach any meaningful area, providing no gameplay value only inconvenience.
  • LY spawns are effectively impossible to recover from. Even with a maxed-out 20k PCU jump-capable ship, returning from a light-year distance would take over 10 years of real time far beyond anything a player could ever reasonably commit to.
To ensure a fair and playable start for everyone, I suggest limiting all space pod spawns to within 1,000 km of a planet or moon. This keeps new and respawning players inside the intended playable area while still providing variation in starting locations.
Additionally, it would be helpful to include a recovery safeguard for grids that end up extremely far from the play area due to old spawns, server bugs, or other anomalies:
  • If a player’s grid is located more than 10 million kilometers from the center, offer an option to teleport it back.
  • The teleportation could include a jump-drive–style visual effect to maintain immersion, placing the player safely back within a valid spawn region.
These changes would prevent unplayable spawn scenarios, eliminate unnecessary frustration, and ensure that players are never stranded beyond any realistic chance of return.
As part of implementing this update, it may also be worthwhile to automatically relocate all grids more than 100 million kilometres from the center back into the main system to ensure no players or abandoned structures remain stranded in unreachable space.
