Part family suggestion: bearing
Not Enough Votes
I propose adding a new family of mechanical blocks to the game. In lieu of a better name, let's call them bearings. It is important that the suggestion is not about adding a singular block, but rather, multiple variations of it, both small and large grid, in various sizes.
It is also important that some variations, especially the large-grid ones, would have to be massive. This is required to fulfill their intended function which is...
...Allowing the construction of things that have a freely rotating part in the middle, while:
- Preserving the ability to transfer items and power between the two halves, as defined by the half before and after the rotating part.
- Allowing physical passage and building through the rotating part.
- Not splitting the build into multiple subgrids, separated by the rotating part (which itself is necessary a subgrid). The top and bottom halves of the base part of a bearing would be both parts of the main grid, only the rotating ring would be separate.
- Allowing the transfer of items and power from the main part to the rotating part.
Practical examples of use:
- More convinient construction of custom turrets.
- Space stations with a rotating solar panel array around the middle.
- Decorative rotating rings around ship or stations.
Similarly to rotors and hinges already existing in the game, bearings could also have "simple" versions that feature no conveyor ports, for less PCU and material cost.
