We need a non-DLC bed

With the addition of food with the Apex update, this has made beds incredibly useful as a cheap means to pause your food needs.

When compared to what is needed for a non-DLC player which is to build a large refinery and refine silver to produce the medical components for a cryo pod, there is a significant gameplay advantage.

To be clear here, I'd love to see the base model bed (maybe even the small grid one too) become part of the base game, not remove this function of beds. I love that beds can keep you safe while offline, I just want everyone to be able to use it :)b0ddc5f54818c9ca62f435327dd795a4

That is a fair point but beds can only resupply oxygen if there is already oxygen in the environment, they can not be fed oxygen.

This means if an area loses pressure the occupant of a bed can still die. Also the cryo pod reduces the oxygen a player consumes.

There are a number of benefits to the cryo pod over the bed. I only use beds on planets with atmosphere anyway or if I'm very confident in a ship or bases strength and redundant oxygen systems. TLDR: The bed isn't really a reliable way to keep you alive in risky situations like space travel. Certainly not the best choice for a combat vessel or other high value targets.

I think if there was to be a balance it should be for the cryo pod to be -1 Medical Comp and -10 Computers.

The cryo pod doesn't require an O2 tank, but some form of O2 supply. If you're on an O2 bearing planet, a simple air vent set to depressurize the world will supply O2 for as long as you have power. If you're in space... you *did* have some form of O2 generation already running, right?

The Med component requirement does seem a bit harsh at the start of a world, though. After a full refinery is up, it's just another material to supply.

Dude are you serious ? Alow to leave and join ? What the advantage here ? If you need to disconect drop your gear in you survival kit you will take it back when you reconect ! Also can't read cause you might have not put the whole description of bed (on prupose ?) but cryopods have o2 consumption reduction, did the bed have such ? Anyway i have 1000h + on pvp server, i never use cryopod during the early game, i just respawn to my survival kit, i only used them at the middle/end game, when i start using advanced tool an need to improve quality of life.

Not sure yet if I should make another post for this, but for those wondering as was pointed out by chibionicat on reddit, the dispenser is also a DLC only item that gives you a significant starting advantage. You can buy clang cola from it with your starter cash and have an extra nearly 5 hours of worry free time from food - but clicking on all those cans would be a pain, so I don't think this one is really viable.

The bed thing mostly came up for me because I was thinking about new players and how nice it would be to encourage them to use a bed if they're starving, already have their algae farms built and just waiting till that sun hits them.

I wouldn't be opposed to making the bed free to all players. It's really just coming down to a slight inconvenience of having to grind your survival pod, build a cryo, wait, and then rebuild it so you can still respawn/heal. This would only ever be useful in the 1st hour of gameplay, and is arguably not necessary, but the function of the bed is not DLC-exclusive.

Keen, please include the normal bed and the small grid bed into the base game.

I myself have all the DLCs, but the fact that not everyone has access to bed is sometimes limiting me.

It's the one non-DLC block I want to add to custom respawn pod. I don't mind including decorative DLC blocks in custom pods, as people will be able to easily replace them if they break them, but a bed just can't be replaced. I don't want to add cryo chamber, as it requires medical components to function, and I don't want to provide starting pod with extra components for easier start, but for a balanced start I want to provide a pressurized environment and a bed.

My problem is that beds don't work as advertised in dug up voxels
