Overhaul the Faction System
As we all know, factions are quite old and have had minor changes for a while now. We've gotten major PvE updates recently but they haven't updated the factions themselves. I'm not only suggesting we update NPC factions, but player ones as well. And again, I'm an idiot online so exactly how these systems are changed I'll leave to the actual game designers, I'm just merely making a base to be worked off of.
- More share ability, for instance, share with Faction, Neutral, Friendly, Ally, and if you really wanted to, Hostile.
- Better warfare system with factions. This will be more focused at NPC factions, but the player ones as well. I'm not sure exactly how this would be changed, but I do think it does have to be. Maybe better declaring war mechanics, like both sides formally go to war, or you make their friends angry? (More on that later) With players, they might actually attack each other, (If they can find each other that is) but NPCs just mind their own business until you go and attack them. Maybe I'm asking for more aggressive NPCs, I don't know.
- Coalitions/Alliances. Player factions, (Or maybe NPC/NPC, or Player/NPC) can form coalitions where they can share blocks with every faction in the coalition, and if one faction goes to war, depending on the type of coalition, all factions in the coalition go to war. Maybe even different types of coalitions, ie Defensive, Trade, Engineering, All Round, and each is very different and can provide strategic planning, whether when joining one or making one.
I think additions similar to these will enrich multiplayer, as well as single player gameplay, from a factions standpoint. Ever since they were created, they've been used to organize players into groups for sharing blocks and creations, but I believe there is more that can be done to improve the faction system allowing for more immersion and better gameplay from a factions standpoint.
