add a ruler

hello!

i have noticed that some of the players (including me) can easily assume bad sizes for blocks.

my suggestion is that when the player selects specifically the unit armor blocks to place mark the size in meters (and possibly in foot, and inch in parentheses) with floating text beside, or around the boundary box of the unit block

i suggest to use it for only the unit armor blocks that are cube shaped such that normally the hud is not cluttered with those

possibly when the player is dragging these blocks holding ctrl, and shift keys in creative mode to be placed the meter (and foot, and inch) values add up such that players can use this indicator as a ruler

other suggestion - if you want show the meters, and feets for a special inplaceable block that can be used as a ruler for space engineers - instead of the unit cube armor blocks, then add such thing instead

ruler blocks can be placed on grids, and the size of it is visible on the block in meters, feet, inch, and in units of large blocks (possibly small block units too). ruler placement is the same to the way players can drag cubes with ctrl+shift in otrder to build volumetric way. the way rulers look is basicaly a hollow slightly glowing boundary box around a volume with stuff written on it in a similar style, or in a style that is readable, and clear. possibly include nudges to the faces where the block borders are. rulers are not built blocks, meaning players should be able to build inside rulers regardless of their presence. for example via having their boundary box as a different type

rulers are like gps markers. players can see rulers on their own side, and can share them to others in a similar way gps markers can be shared - maybe players can see on the ruler which player's ruler is it as well - not only the size.

for example with format:

Ruler:<ship id, or name(you decide)>;<x_position_on_grid>:<y_position_on_grid>:<z_position_on_grid>:<owner id, or name(you decide)>:<x_size>:<y_size>:<z_size>:<highlight color>:

in this case "n_size" are in block units, and the actual size in meter, and feet is going to be inferred of the Ruler dpending on the grid it is placed to

also for rulers:

just like a gps marker can be turned on or off, a ruler can be

when the ruler is off it can not be seen on the grid, and it can not be built further rulers on top of it

when the ruler is on, it can be seen, and further rulers can be built on top of it attaching to it

possibly when the player holds alt to place a new ruler, it attaches to the built grids rather to attach to the ruler that is already present on the grid - such that the player can build through rulers when it is holding alt making it possible to overlap rulers (inspiration from medieval engineers)

also for rulers:

for small grid the surface size is very limited, possibly instead of writing things on the volume, just write things floating close to the volume instead

(possibly make the floating signs always face the player, and avoid one another when more rulers are placed to a similar space on the same grid - just like gps markers)

the floating text should be of the same color the boundary box - just like for gps markers

also for rulers:

in the info tab of a grid include checkbox for "show rulers" just like for gravity, and sensor range - that is on by default, and can be turned off regardless a "Ruler"'s state (compared to a gps marker) just as finicky as gravity generator blocks', and sensor blocks' state related to the info tab currently - visible only via antenna signals

also for rulers:

instead of format:

Ruler:<ship id, or name(you decide)>;<x_position_on_grid>:<y_position_on_grid>:<z_position_on_grid>:<owner id, or name(you decide)>:<x_size>:<y_size>:<z_size>:<highlight color>:

rather use format:

Ruler:<ruler name>:<ship id, or name(you decide)>;<x_position_on_grid>:<y_position_on_grid>:<z_position_on_grid>:<owner id, or name(you decide)>:<x_size>:<y_size>:<z_size>:<highlight color>:

which format is more analogous to gps markers' currently
