Suggestion - Docking Beacon

A beacon block that upon request will transmit docking information(waypoints) to an incoming vehicles flight recorder.

Waypoints could include holding position, approach vector, speed limits, docking port or landing zone, orientation.

This would allow the receiving grid to guide in craft that have not been preprogrammed.

Some option to make the request from the incoming ship is needed and method to remotely update the flight recorder.

So *one* problem with this (assuming it is possible to do, code-wise) is that everyone will need to align their move and/or recorder blocks the exact same way in relation to their connectors, else it won't line up with the connector on the ship they are docking with, and may even slam into hull/walls when it turns out the ship is too big.

Thank you for replying.

So far as I have read, it is possible to run more than one recorder block. The recorder blocks may be switched on by event controllers.

The projector has an offset system to align projections, something similar could be added to a docking alignment process.

As for dealing with size of docking/landing zone, some discernment would be required between craft of a known faction and that of neutral status.

Some docking configurations could be of standardised format to accommodate a universal connection arrangement that would generally be accepted. The NPC stations appear to have at least one port open to vessels of scale.

Where the faction and ship type are familiar, custom docking arrangement could be worked out.

Does the grid contain data on the vessel scale?

Could sensors help?

Need Bumpers/Fenders to help with unruly ship speed and control. Shaostoul Bumpers mod 2014/6.

Inside station zones - slam away - damage is off.

My thoughts are both with automation, drawing upon autopilot navigation used in airports and the idea of a local pilot taking over from the captain with ships coming into harbour.

is a concept i have explored a few times but recorder isnt known for its extreme path fidelity when dockings
