Procedural/Editable Building Blocks
It's great that we’re getting a lot of new blocks with every update. However, with the newly teased unified grid system in VRAGE3, I think the building blocks could also benefit from some changes. We should consider adding or modifying some of the basic foundational blocks, such as the 1x1 armor blocks and 1x1 armor slopes, especially focusing on slope, corner, and edge blocks.
The issue with the current blocks is that there aren’t any long slopes (ramps) or long corners in the vanilla game, so creations meant to have smooth, aerodynamic surfaces end up looking choppy with just the 1x1 slope block or a 1x2 slope created by combining blocks. Adding blocks such as 1x3, 1x4, 2x3, 2x5, etc., for slopes and corners would be a fantastic addition, as it would allow for smoother surfaces and slopes in designs, especially when aiming for an aerodynamic look.
I understand that adding a bunch of these blocks might clutter the block inventory, so one idea I have is to make the existing armor blocks, slopes, and corners editable with a UI that lets users adjust the width, length, and height of each block, inspired by the concept of geometry nodes in Blender. For example, since we already have the 1x1 slope block, we could adjust it to become a 1x3 or 2x3 directly in the inventory, without needing to add new blocks. I also think this should apply to windows as well to match the shape of the blocks and allow for big window faces.
In my opinion, the ability to change the dimensions of building blocks in a block-based building game would be game changing. Many other games of this type suffer from the same choppy-looking slope issue, and having the ability to create better slopes and corners would make creations look even more polished and realistic.
I could also imagine an option to change it on the fly. Have a little preview window that shows the currently selected block, with a way to change the dimensions in the preview window.
The simplest version would be a slider to change the length, or maybe use the mouse wheel. Do this for all three dimensions, and you will have a lot of freedom in customizing your blocks. Adding the new versions to the hotbar would be a logical next step.
Semi-on topic: We need more hotbars. Perhaps 20 instead of 10, to be chosen with ALT + number (instead of CTRL + number) for number 11 through 20? I think you could squeeze a second row into the GUI without making it too cluttered
