structure blocks

hollow "blocks" that exist only as structural connections of the grid, to make construction more stable, and to make armor be more specialized as protection rather than dual purposed as structure and armor.

-can only be targetted with a specific tool, to avoid accidental grinding/grid separation in construction

-can be built "inside of" as well as "onto" by holding a key or toggle

-represented as thin metal just along the edges and vertices

-can be walked through in large ships

-immune/transparent to bullets, both for thematic and practical purposes, only high yield explosives should be able to cut a ship in half, but bullets can cut through armor, pass through structure, and hit internal components

-snap to match the borders of any block built "inside of" them for visual purposes, namely all the armor shapes

-possibly a ship wide or server wide setting could make them all invisible in case of visual glitches or server strain

-could simplify physics load when ships start to break up, since individual armor chunks won't be "falling off" and flailing all over. Which is only cool if it were buttery smooth anyway, so no great loss.

I think Light Armor acts at exactly this. Heavy is the specialized armor. Also it would require them to rebalance the entire game again and they just did it in Warfare.
