Collision avoidance is even more broken with 1.202

Just using the good old remote controller. (No AI Blocks)

The ship seems now to try to avoid collision with itself and flying into obstacles while doing that.

Collision avoidance still worked with 1.201 (Most wanted)

Hello, Hauke Sattler,

thank you for writing to us. Can you please provide me with a save file where you observed this behavior? I tried to test it in my game but my drone did not crash into objects, just tried to avoid them.

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Hello

Here is the required Zip file.

I reduced the world size to necessary minimum.

I also removed any mods or scripts.

There is a running timer to autostart the autopilot.

So you don't have to anything, just watch.

1.201 Ship flies to the purple GPS position without problem or contact

1.202 Ship flies in a different direction, gets stuck in obstacles, collides

with several static objects and MAYBE finally reaches the GPS position quite

mangled.

with best regards

Do you still need more information?

Hello, Hauke Sattler,

thank you for the save and explanation. After discussing this internally we came to a conclusion that this is intended behavior. Turning off the collision avoidance will result in drone flying over the grid and not crashing.

As this is not really a bug but rather feedback, I'm moving this thread now so it is sorted in the right section.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind regards,

Sadly, I tend to disagree.

In 1.201 the ship tried to at least avoid obstacles with activated "Collision avoidance".

Try to fly the ship to the left to fly anywhere with the autopilot in "Collision avoidance" mode.

In 1.201 it works.

In 1.202 it flies loops and turns even in open space!!!

Will make a video when home again.

I think I found the problem.

You can't, for the love of god, have more than one subgrid on your ship.

So if you have any rotor, hinge or piston on your ship, the autopilot tries to avoid a collision with itself.

The avoidance box seems now to be much too big or sensitive.

On 1.201 it seems to be that ship subgrids were considered part of the ship.

On 1.202 it seems that any grid is considered as an obstacle to be avoided.
