Hand drill drilling distance

While crouching and walking forwards, I used to be able to drill with the hand drill held at an approximate angle of 50-60 degrees to drill out a trench.
Lately, I can barely drill straight down while crouching. Even on planets I have to use the jetpack to be able to drill effectively unless I can drill straight ahead. I would assume this is a bug that came with the Warfare update?

I have also found that the hand drill drilling distance has been reduced. It not requires some awkward angles to drill by hand making the process even slower and more tedious then before.
