I think that the economy update was great, but I do not see why the stations need to be lifeless,
if there were just some kind of humanoid/android type thing it would make interactions so much more interesting, they would not have to be complex or even move just a few different text variations.
Plus the additions of all the new factions have enabled the possibility of npc faction conflict, where you can assist one side and be rewarded if you were fighting for the faction that won perhaps with items that are otherwise impossible to get.
