Modular Antennas

I would really like to have to design my ships with antenna range in mind.
Here's how the block(s) would work:
-Antenna base handles all function and settings of the antenna, but has no range on its own.
-Antenna rod extends range.
Would be the same with ore detectors and sensors.I would leave the beacon at a 2 block for the present range, making it a more used option.
