New "Hatch" Block

Hi Guys;
I'd like to recommend a feature I've seen some people talk about but not in this forum. I'd like to suggest a purpose-made "hatch" or "escape hatch" similar to a door, but specifically designed to fit flush to a floor or ceiling. Perhaps a 1x1 large-grid block with a bulky manually-operated swinging door?

A half block iris hatch would be nice to have. I think there are already hatches like this in mod packs though.

Would be handy. Trapdoors in Minecraft can be used with ladders for seamless motion to above the trapdoor, a similar function would be cool.
