Suction caused by decompression

Make the airthightness even more realistic, not just some air cloud, making it move near lightweight objects to the air breach or door. The idea is to create a small field of attraction that moves the character and small grids and blocks around for a little time. This, to avoid issues with other players, can be added as an extra or experimental feature, like the scripting block or others in the "advanced" tab.

Some examples the community gave:

- Making a rail revolver style with some chambers connected consecutively

- Ejecting torpedoes from their tubes

- Taking care of compression process as if there are ships on hangar they will be sucked out

- Roleplaying/realism

- Making passenger seat a bit more useful (that way, the people around wont be launched to outer space)

- Emergency evacuation

PS: someone told that was previously done but it was removed later

It's a good idea. A pity they discontinued it but would be just GREAT with the realisitc sound at the void when it decompress.

exactly, maybe it could come back if they already have the code somewhere

Well, in reality such push isn't really all that powerful so neither of the examples are actually viable... except RP and simple decompression. It's just up to 1 atmospehere's of pressure differential after all. You'll notice it if you're right at the hole, but step back a few feet and it's a mere breeze...

make it in a way we can edit the force or the atmospheres inside the ship so we get harder external forces

Do you expect such kind of decompression ? ;-)

yeeeahh. Okay, maybe a little less, just for a second or two

Yea that would be nice

I'm sure there was a 'Ecto Sage' video on YouTube about the decompression a long time ago... ;)

I already had some ideas with this concept. I wish they implemented it

Now that I look back on it, (And I'm no developer) I do believe that the main reason air-tightness was laggy was because it affected components :/ As during the public tests and still, the only difference that I've noticed is the fact that components were no longer affected by the depressurization (and I'm sure they added other fixes to the code) and yes at one point this was an addition to airtightness as this was added on update 1.077 https://youtu.be/k6ONQkqwKi8 and was available before the major overhaul of airtightness and was then removed after the overhaul and during the public tests.

But hey the devs fixed multiplayer and added entire planets, so maybe they can fix this past idea :)

Thanks for supporting the idea! Yeah, with the latest optimizations maybe they can bring it back. By the way, did someone noticed that when for example a 3 hangar door opens, only 1 is affected by the smoke cloud? Like, they only render 1 block for the air effect. That annoys me because it should smoke on all the doors

Yeah that's another thing I hope they add to depressurization. It should be dependent on how big the room is and how big the hole is. So large rooms that get depressurised will have lots of force if the hole is small and will depressurize longer.

Although I can understand if they don't add this to the game. Because it seems like having very large rooms depressurize for a super long time wouldn't be very healthy for the game's performance. But hey I'm still not a developer so maybe it's not that difficult.

Totally, but what I always say: put that as an optional feature. That way those who can handle it, will. And those who find if pretty laggy, turn off :D

i'm gonna give this one a no-go. players being sucked out by decompression should at most hurt them from the extreme impulse force, as well as additional ship damage based on the volume of ejected air if block damage causes depressurization.

after all, all space engineers are equipped with magboots as standard, and airvents automatically shut off in the event of decompression. and even if that, gravity generators still function and pull you down.

(you pressurise your torpedoes? why?)

I remember that this feature was a kinda of a thing in the past. When you used a airlock i remember that depressurization caused the players jetpack automatically turned on. when this was a thing it was really annoying

What decompresion used to be like

Currently there exist mod that removes AUTO ON dampeners from jetpack and makes jetpack pure MANUAL ON and OFF. In a process fixing many problems like flying inside car and flying when climbing stairs in moving ship. So good old decompression would be great with that mod.

Why they abandoned it?

I remember correctly before planets if you break window the player was thrown out.
